West Vancouver

Living in West Vancouver – what’s it like?

A captivating community with scenic views, West Vancouver began as a popular summer destination only accessible by ferry. It has grown to attract over 40,000 residents and become an affluent municipality. Often described as a quiet, family-oriented area, West Vancouver can offer ample opportunities for recreation and physical activity, frequented festivals and events. Beaches, trails, ski slopes, golf courses, marinas – this is the place where you can ski on Cypress Mountain in the morning and sail in the afternoon. West Vancouver schools are consistently highly ranked by the Fraser Institute, and the school district often becomes one of main reasons for families to move here. Natural beauty and geography have influenced the West Coast Style residential design that is prominent within local architecture. Complex geometric forms, open floors plans, and extensive glazing bringing an abundance of natural light all came to characterize the style. Nested between urbanity and nature, West Vancouver can become an ideal base for a high- quality living.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Spectacular views, convenient amenities, outdoor adventures.

NEIGHBOURS: The Sea to Sky region is just at your doorstep!

UNEXPECTED: Park Royal was Canada’s first shopping centre when it opened in 1950.

INTERESTING: The numbered streets run the slope of the mountain, north to south, with the avenues going across west to east. To get yourself oriented you can use the first letter of the avenue: the earlier in the alphabet, the lower down the hill you are.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Crossing to downtown Vancouver can utilize some good timing skills – try using public transit or avoid the peak times when going in the more congested direction. If you come from a bigger city, you may actually find it pretty manageable.
